| Today I got Sadie to come outside, without her leash offering food and treats.
She was allowed to go back whenever she wanted to build up trust. She doesn't know COME, command, and would still rather be in her room than upstairs or outside. I think the trick is to go slow and do a little each day. Maybe she was an outdoor dog, supposedly a stray. It was progress, and I want to start tracking her progress via an Excel chart of the tasks I want her to do with slow steps. She gets panicky and if I force her she complies. It's stressful. But I feel like she's not going back to the shelter. Working on losing fear of my son, Max, by getting him to give her a treat when he comes home. |
