Keys to Listi

Listi is a work in progress that has an interesting history.

It all started in the early 2000s where I just learned HTML.

I was creating a list of investing sites and hyperlinking to them.

The title would say Top 3 Investing Sites. When I added a new item to the list I had to change the heading on the list.

I found this annoying and created a tag that would count up the number of items in the list if 22 was in the title of the list.

I started to modify the website one change at a time creating the various features that would save me time.

Listi is similar to a wiki, in that you make a change to a list and it is immediately available to anyone anywhere in the world with an internet connection.

It's by no means a perfect product as it's hard to use and might have too many features. But I'm attempting is 2021 to make it more usable and get some users.

The key concepts of Listi are:
  • Everything is a List (okay not everything)
  • Every item in a list can have a sub-list
  • Always make the task take one less step
  • Eliminate redundancies
  • Use lists to declutter your mind

So the most list typically has the following:
  • List Name
  • List items

    Here is an example:

3 Ways to succeed at life <=== List Name
    1. Have goals       --------+
    2. Create habits              |  <=== List Items
    3. Be prepared      --------+

Some things I've done with Listi
  • I've built a number of websites using the basics of Listi
  • I've written a number of books and even published one on Amazon

    Everything is a List

Okay, not everything. But most documents and websites are really a bunch of lists.
  • Google - You enter a search and it returns a list of results
  • Amazon - Give you a list of products to buy
  • Book - Lists of chapters and sections with content
  • Article
  • PowerPoint - List of slides with a list of information
  • Word - a document is a list of sections
  • Excel - Each sheet is a list of rows

At some point, I realized that the list was missing some introductory text, which I call a comment. So the full list is:

3 Ways to succeed at life <=== List Name

This is a list of the way you can succeed in life.  <=== List Comment
    1. Have goals       --------+
    2. Create habits              |  <=== List Items
    3. Be prepared      --------+
