Islanders Crown Kings in OT 2 - 1 with a Quick Goal by Mark Streit

(Uniondale, NY) The New York Islanders defeated the LA Kings today by the score of 2 - 1 in overtime. The Islanders jumped to an early 1 - 0 lead in the first period on a goal from Michael Grabner(15), his first in 9 games.

In the second period Rob Scuderi from the LA Kings took a slapshot from the point. Josh Bailey lost coverage of his man Dustin Brown who took the Nabokov rebound and shot it off of Andrei Loktionov's stick who was misplayed by Milan Jurcina to tie the game at 1 - 1.

The game was very rough with many non-calls. The refs appeared to fall asleep. In the overtime period Mark Streit received a pass from Matt Moulson made a nice deak to his left, walked around the LA defense and shot a backhander 5 hole through Jonathan Quick's legs for the winning goal.

The Islanders were outshot 35 - 25 and the Kings possessed the puck in the Islanders zone 55% of the game. Nabokov was outstanding in goal turning away 97% of the shots on net.

John Tavares continues his good play, but has gotten only 1 point in his last 4 games.
