| Seems obvious but most people learn to do something one way and rarely change. I was at work and typing and a guy named Kenny Eng said to me that I was wasting time by not pressing Ctrl C to copy to the clipboard. I didn't want to do it that way because it wasn't my habit and was actually harder at first. But eventually, I tried it and realized that it was faster. The basic rule is to find one less step to do something. So the first thing to do is learn the shortcut keys as soon as possible with whatever software you use. Try to learn one each day and especially the things you do often. You can google almost any software you use to determine which shortcut key to use. At first, you may forget but keep at it. A good exercise is to try to use your computer without using the mouse. This will force you to learn. Through repetition, you'll soon learn them. Here are the most basic Windows shortcuts you must know. Another shortcut is to learn to touch type. I learned this in the seventh grade and it has saved me much time over the years. There is one tool I highly recommend to help you define your own shortcuts called Auto Hot Key. This allows you to define your own shortcut keys. |
