Feb. 14, 2012 (Winnipeg, Canada) Islanders defeat Winnipeg Jets by a score of 3 - 1. P.A. Parenteau and Evgeni Nabokov both had excellent games. Islanders where out-shot (on goal) 38 - 25 and had the puck in their zone 57% of the game. Winnipeg had a total of 72 shots taken vs. 44 for the Islanders.
The Jets started the scoring with a nice backhand in front of the net by Chris Thornburg (3). Coverage was lost by Steve Staios who failed to tie up Thornburg.
In the second period the Islanders tied the game on a power play goal by Matt Moulson (25). The Jets tried to clear the puck and Moulson knocked it down with his stick, passed to John Tavares who gave it back to Moulson. Matt took a slap shot that squeezed through the Jets' defenses legs and found its way on goal.
It the third period, P.A. Parenteau (12) tipped the puck into the net off of a shot by Milan Jurcina. The scoring was completed with an empty net by Matt Martin (7).
Islanders face the St. Louis Blues on Thursday.
