Happiness Formula >

(C+ - C-) = See the Positive - See the Negative

I think life is more enjoyable if you see the positive. Everyone has both positive experiences and negative ones. It's very easy to focus on the negative, but you should spend your time focusing on the positive. Every negative event has a positive side to it.

For example, I recently was turned down for a promotion. I could focus on the negative "I didn't get a promotion" or the positive "At least I have a good, interesting well paying job."

When buying a house or finding a spouse, there will be trade-offs. You have bought a house with a small yard but the house is beautiful and it's in a good school district. Focus on these positive aspects.

I think Tony Robbins said it best when he used an example of a party. In one party of the room people are laughing and having a good time. In another part of the room, people look miserable. If you had a video camera and just took video of the fun time that's what you focus on.

This part of the formula is the difference of positive things you see minus the negative. "C" is short for the word "see". Your goal to increase your happiness is to look for the positive and don't harp on the negative.
